The next matter particles we will discuss are called Quarks.

There are six different quarks, but physicists group them into three pairs:
  • Up (u) and Down (d)
  • Charm (c) and Strange (s)
  • Top (t) and Bottom (b)
Quarks have the unusual characteristic of having fractional electric charge of either +2/3 or -1/3, unlike the -1 charge of an electron and the +1 charge of the proton.
